Mike's Library Hot Picks: Ultimatum & Ultimate Comics: New Ultimates: Thor Reborn

Somewhere in the dark and nasty regions, where nobody goes, stands an ancient castle. Deep within this dank, and uninviting place, lives Bumchin “Allo!”, overworked servant of "the thing upstairs" “Bumchin! Write a Review!” But that's nothing, compared to the horrors that lurk beneath the trap door, for there is always something down there, in the dark, waiting to come out...(usually its Dan)
So this week I’ve decided to review some of the Ultimate storylines from Marvel. I thought it was appropriate with all the news surrounding the “Death of (Ultimate) Spider-man”.
Ultimatum - The End. Who cares?!

At the start of the Ultimatum event I made the declaration that depending on how the story panned out would be the deciding factor on whether I was going to continue with the Ultimate Universe at all. Well it’s coming to an end as detailed by the above teaser image (I’ll let you make up your own mind on who the ash stain is*cough*Snikt!*cough*)and I’ve got to say I’ve not been too impressed so far. Sure it’s been shocking, people been dying left, right and centre. You have no idea who’s gonna go next and in what sick and depraved way they will meet their maker but is shocking enough? It’s enough to keep me buying the next issue but I don’t feel engaged in the story. There doesn’t feel as though enough time is allowed to ponder the impact these deaths may have on the universe and the characters that inhabit it. Maybe this is being done in the requiem mini that’s running alongside the main series but I’m not willing to buy another part of a story I’m really not that into anyway. Maybe it will be addressed when the whole line relaunches next month (with foil covers!!!) but at this rate I won’t be around to find out. So the End is nigh and really all I have to say is who cares?
NYCC 09 Update 3: Ultimate Comics, Digital Motion Spider-Woman, Marvels project and more!

So the Ultimate Universe isn't going to make it out of Ultimatum untouched, according to Jeph Loeb there is "no reset button", the Ultimate line is coming to an end and being replace by a new status quo 'Ultimate Comics'. CBR have a really nice Ultimate Comics roundup if you click HERE, including Bendis' view on Ultimate Spider-Man vol.2, Mark Millar's return to the Ultimate Universe with Ultimate Avengers and even more from Jeph Loeb on Ultimatum.
