Mike's Library Hot Picks: Daredevil: The Man Without Fear & Batman: TDKR
You ask Bones, "Please?" but he still says, "No!"
You missed two deadlines, and no homework
But Bumchin preaches X-men like you're some kind of jerk!
You gotta fight, for your right, to Side kick”
Welcome back to another edition of your weekly guide to what’s hot in your local library. It seems our beloved leaders are still at each others throats, and Bones shows no signs of admitting he’s wrong (Go Team Daredevil).
I’ve decided to make this weeks as fair as possible, and so have decided to review a book from each camp. To make things even more equal both books are written by the same man, the legendary Frank Miller.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Civil War

When Sidekicks go to war, a Bumchin is all that you can score (Workin' for the bad guys)
Well in honour of our current predicament with our beloved leaders getting their measuring sticks out I decided that this would be a suitable time to review some Marvel books.
Hmmm, what could I possibly review that could be of interest, oh yeah Civil War, or at least the books that the library has in stock.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: The List

Gavin became the mighty Bones, and I became Bum-Chin, the most powerful man in the universe!
Well that’s that done, on with the review. This week is a look back at a darker time for the Marvel universe; it’s a book set bang smack in the middle of Dark Reign. Once again it features a number of stories so I will be focusing on them each listing the writers and artists and giving information of what to pick up after each story and how we got to where the story starts.
The Book is “The List” it was published originally in 2009 and was collected in a nice book that has some great stories in it. When these stories originally came out I only picked up the Uncanny X-men version as it became clear that it was essentially a jumping on point book for other titles. The list is something that Norman “Green Goblin” Osborn creates to make life easier for him and contains the following things to do:
Eliminate Daredevil
Kill Namor
Kill Frank Castle (The Punisher)
Kill Nick Fury
Neutralize Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
Control The World
Kill Spiderman
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Victorian Undead & Justice

Welcome watchers of illusion, to the castle of confusion, stay with us now for this is the time of adventure, I Tregar offer this challenge, beyond that portal lies the dungeon of deceit…..so enter, Stranger, don the helmet of justice…..sorry that’s the beginning to Knightmare not my reviews. Right what am I recommending this week, well, I have three books although two are parts one and two of the same story.
First up is a great book from Wildstorm comics, written by Ian Edgington (Wolverine: Knights of Terra, Torchwood Rift War). The book is illustrated by Davide Fabbri (Starship Troopers, Star Wars) and supported by Tom Mandrake (Great name) (New Mutants 1st series, The Spectre). The book in question is entitled “Victorian Undead: Sherlock Holmes Vs Zombies”.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Amazing Spider-Man: Origin of the Species & Doom Patrol: Brotherhood

Okay, two books this week with no back stories to them, one from Marvel comics and one from their Distinguished Competition (remember when Marvel used to call them that? You’re old).
First up is Amazing Spider-man: Origin of the species written by Mark Waid (Captain America, Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Paul Azaceta (Punisher Noir). The story collates Amazing Spider-man issues 642-647, the book it is reprinted in also contains some other little stories that I will talk more about later as there does not seem to be any reference to where they are from.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: The Punisher: Eternal War & Punisher MAX: In the Beginning

Welcome to a world of blood and violence, this week’s reviews and info sheet are all about the man who has been cleaning up the Marvel universe for over 30 years, yup this week we are looking at Francis Castiglione otherwise known as Frank Castle: The Punisher.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Gen 13: World's End

Hullo there, well this week is another Trade review with a backstory on the characters and their publishing history, this time from Image comics under the Wildstorm banner comes Gen 13: World's End, this book is written by Scott Beatty (Joker: last Laugh, Robin Year one) and illustrated by Mike Huddleston (Harley Quinn, Captain America Red White and Blue).
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Anita Blake and Arthur: The Legend
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Justice Society of America (JSA)

In a change of pace I have decided to give a bit of background on certain titles that I review in order for non fans to get an idea of who is who and what’s gone on before. I will also be recommending other books to get in the same series.
So the first of these reviews/history lessons is all about the Justice Society of America (further referred to as the JSA). Originally the JSA was composed of a select few select members and their adventures date back to the silver age of comics. Some of these members are still active today through various plot devices that DC have used to keep them alive. The team initially included Doctor Fate, Hour-Man (as it was then spelled), the Spectre and the Sandman, Atom (Al Pratt), the Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Wonder Woman, Wildcat and Hawkman. This incarnation of the JSA also featured Black Canary as a member, although to complicate things, its actually the current Black Canary’s mother. This team eventually gave up the mantle when they were asked to unmask and make their identities known (hmmm sounds just like Civil War).
Mike's Library Hot Picks: Pride of Baghdad & Mystery Society

Welcome back to another set of reviews, I hope some of you have had the chance to pick up some of the books suggested so far. This week I have another two books to review so I’ll get on with it. Unfortunately nothing from the big two unless you really want me to review Iron Man: Stark Resiliant featuring Sawyer from Lost.
The first book is called Pride of Baghdad. Written by Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways, Ex Machina) with art from Niko Henrichon (Fables, New X-men).
Pride of Baghdad is inspired by a true story from the earliest days of the war in Iraq. During a bombing run, the Baghdad zoo was destroyed. Four lions escaped from the ruins and ended up in the capital city amidst the U.S. invasion. It is the pride's first taste of freedom. But at what cost?
