Mike's Library Hot Picks: Amazing Spider-Man: Origin of the Species & Doom Patrol: Brotherhood

Okay, two books this week with no back stories to them, one from Marvel comics and one from their Distinguished Competition (remember when Marvel used to call them that? You’re old).
First up is Amazing Spider-man: Origin of the species written by Mark Waid (Captain America, Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Paul Azaceta (Punisher Noir). The story collates Amazing Spider-man issues 642-647, the book it is reprinted in also contains some other little stories that I will talk more about later as there does not seem to be any reference to where they are from.
Geoff Johns brings the Legion to Smallville
I'm sure by now everyone has heard that Geoff Johns writer of Green Lantern, JSA, Action Comics and all around saviour of DC Comics has written an episode of Warner Brother's Smallville which features the Legion of Superheroes. I gave up on Smallville about two series ago and don't really miss it if I'm honest but this has me intrigued. The chance to see Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad and Cosmic Boy on the screen is just too good to miss. So check out this trailer for the episode in question and enjoy.
The Legion of Superheroes are are a superhero team from the 30th and 31st centuries (1000 years from the present), but have recurring connections via time travel with the present. In particular their formation and codes of conduct were inspired by the actions of our very own Superman.
The team was closely associated with the original Superboy and was first portrayed as a group of time travelers who frequently visited (or were visited by) the young hero destined to become Superman.
