The latest Fantastic Four teaser from Marvel seems to suggest that Johnny Storm is making his way back to the Fantastic family, not so sure myself, not enough time has passed, it would be a mistake. Axel Alonso: Editor in Chief (Nuff Said!)

Marvel announced yesterday that it has promoted Axel Alonso to Editor-in-Chief, Marvel Entertainment. I've heard nothing but good stuff about Axel and the way he works so we can only assume this is is good news. In this new role, Mr. Alonso will report to Dan Buckley Publisher & President, Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide Inc. Mr. Alonso will oversee all day to day aspects of Marvel’s Publishing division, including advising on the editorial creative direction, developing new storylines and brainstorming new initiatives. Additionally, Mr. Alonso will work on creative aspects of development of larger corporate initiatives involving Marvel’s popular library of characters. The announcement was made today by Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment. This move will also see Tom Brevoort moving to Senior Vice President of Publishing.

Will the real Bob Harras please stand-up - New DC E-i-C

by Gavin Jones Email

Are the 90's back with the appointment of Bob Harras to DC E-i-C?!

Bob Harras, formerly Marvel Editor-in-Chief (1995-2002) is now Editor-in-Chief at DC comics reporting directly to Dan Didio and Jim Lee. This role has been vacant for quite some time now, so they question has to be asked does DC really need an editor-in-chief? And even if they do, is Bob Harras really the right man for the job?

San Diego Comic Con '09 (SDCC '09): Joe Q spills the beans

by Gavin Jones Email

Link: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2009/07/23/marvel-to-publish-something/

Joe Quesada; Editor in Chief at Marvel comics and king of hyperbole has been putting it about that he'll be making a big announcement at the Cup O' Joe panel today. I heard this first from Rich Johnston (well done that man) over at Bleeding Cool, so thanks that I'm now sat here at my computer waiting for the news to hit the net so I can pass it on to you guys; the loyal Sidekicks. By my reckoning it's going to be announced sometime between 10 and 11pm GMT so we've got a little time to sit here and postulate on what it may be that he's going to announce.

So where to start? Well it's supposed to be something that could possibly break the internet so it's not just limited to comic geeks but all geeks. It can't be a movie/animation thing as I don't think it would be Joe Q announcing a new franchise launch, it's not his area. So it has to be comics but mainstream enough to be of interest to the rest of the world. First thing that came to mind was either the death or return of a much loved character but that's been done to death (no pun intended) lately, so that can't be it. After One More Day I'm guessing he won't be touching Spider-Man with a barge pole, Captain America has been taken care of so that leaves Thor, The Avengers, The Hulk, Iron Man or The X-Men. So it'll have to be Tony Stark realises he's a mutant joins the X-Men who go up against the Avengers in the defense of the Hulk who's lost his mind because Thor stole his favourite purple slacks. Yup, thats it I'm sure. Stay tuned to find out the inside skinny, yo.

Captain America Back from the Dead

by Gavin Jones Email

Today sees the unprecedented release of Captain America #600, two days before it's usual release day on Wednesday, why all the fuss? Because Captain America, Steve Rogers is returning from the grave. Joe Quesada; Marvel Editor-in-Cheif announced today through the Daily News "The original Captain America is finally coming back,". This isn't going to happen in Captain America #600 but just as I and so many others predicted in Ed Brubaker's new mini series Reborn.

As I said in my previous Reborn post I think Bucky Cap still needs a bit more time with the Captain America mantle but obviously Marvel feel differently. I can see where they're coming from with a movie on it's way and the media attention this sort of event will draw to the property but I can't help thinking it's too soon. Of course if the story is good and it feels right then I'll soon change my tune, heralding this as the greatest comic moment ever but if it all goes wrong I can still say I told you so. What can I say I like to hedge my bets. For the good of the character I hope Marvel know what they're doing and they're doing this for the right reasons in that it's what Ed Brubaker wants and planned rather than imposing it upon him earlier than he would've liked.
