Avengers: X-Sanction - Is Cable the New RULK?!

by Gavin Jones Email

BIG GUN! BIG GUN! BIG GUN!

With the recent reveal that Cable will be returning after 'dying' during X-Men event, Second Coming, we now have some more information about the direction that his return will take. It seems that Cable will be taking on The Avengers in an attempt to safeguard his 'daughter', Hope, and her future prosperity. With this mini-series being written by man of many lives, Jeph Loeb and drawn by fan favourite Ed McGuinness I pose the question; Is Cable the new RULK?

Cable Reborn...Again!

by Gavin Jones Email

This man is all arm

Whilst SDCC '11 was going on I was trying to stay out of it, I wasn't there, we had no Sidekicks there so I decided not to report much news from the show. If I'm being honest I was having a bit of a sulk, plus SDCC news always makes good content for Secrets and Lies on The Sidekickcast. There was one bit of news that passed me by that I should've reported on, as I promised I would here, Cable was not on the list, so that's an epic fail by me.

Mike's Library Hot Picks: Superman/Batman

by mikeybumchin Email

Sidekick, sidekick, sidekick, Ho!!!!!!, Sidekickcast is on the move, Sidekickcast is loose, feel the strange magic, hear the roar, sidekick cast is loose, sidekick, sidekick sidekick, sidekickcast, sidekick, sidekick sidekick, sidekickcast, sidekick, sidekick sidekick, sidekickcast

Sidekick, ho!!

What?! I couldn’t find another one with speaking in it. So, the reviews are shifting back to the DC universe and it’s all about the cape and the cowl. This week’s Hot Picks will focus entirely on one series, I’ll review two of the books and make recommendations for other books that are available from (Cardiff) Library.

Superman/Batman started back in 2003 (can’t believe its been going that long) and was given to Jeph Loeb (Hulk, Ulitmatum, Ultimate Avengers). At the time he was working with industry favourite Ed McGuinness, although later stories have featured art by a whole range of other artists, and similarly writing duties have also frequently changed.

Mike's Library Hot Picks: The List

by mikeybumchin Email

I am Michael, prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Sidekick. This is Gavin, my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft a comic book and said, “By the power of Sidekick! I have the power! “
Gavin became the mighty Bones, and I became Bum-Chin, the most powerful man in the universe!

[Ed- Hang on Mike, this makes me Battle Cat or even worse Cringer, you ride me?!]

Well that’s that done, on with the review. This week is a look back at a darker time for the Marvel universe; it’s a book set bang smack in the middle of Dark Reign. Once again it features a number of stories so I will be focusing on them each listing the writers and artists and giving information of what to pick up after each story and how we got to where the story starts.

The Book is “The List” it was published originally in 2009 and was collected in a nice book that has some great stories in it. When these stories originally came out I only picked up the Uncanny X-men version as it became clear that it was essentially a jumping on point book for other titles. The list is something that Norman “Green Goblin” Osborn creates to make life easier for him and contains the following things to do:

Neutralize Clint Barton (Hawkeye)
Eliminate Daredevil
Kill Namor
Kill Frank Castle (The Punisher)
Kill Nick Fury
Neutralize Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
Control The World
Kill Spiderman

Somewhere in the dark and nasty regions, where nobody goes, stands an ancient castle. Deep within this dank, and uninviting place, lives Bumchin “Allo!”, overworked servant of "the thing upstairs" “Bumchin! Write a Review!” But that's nothing, compared to the horrors that lurk beneath the trap door, for there is always something down there, in the dark, waiting to come out...(usually its Dan)

So this week I’ve decided to review some of the Ultimate storylines from Marvel. I thought it was appropriate with all the news surrounding the “Death of (Ultimate) Spider-man”.

Captain America & Bucky #620 Preview

by Gavin Jones Email

Captain America & Bucky #620 Cover by Ed McGuinness

I feel bad, I feel like I've abandoned a long standing friend. I didn't even know that Captain America was changing it's name to Captain America & Bucky, I left the book disillusioned and disinterested after the Retrun of Capatin America storyline. Now this press release lands on my desk and suddenly I'm back, interested and ready to go another 12 rounds with Cap's plucky but deadly sidekick. You see, that's the draw for me, Bucky. Ed Brubaker has revived the character of Bucky into someone I not only care about but I'm infinitely interested in his retconned backstory, even though it's all history or not as the case may be. Brubaker is skilled in telling Bucky's history in such a way that it not only informs how we see the character now but also adds darker layers to a hero who not only stands next to Cap, he was Cap.

This cover is from Prog 710 December 1990 when I would've been 10 years old and already well into the 2000ADs I'd stolen from my friend's older brother. Tharg Bless us, everyone.
