Mike's Library Hot Picks: Daredevil: The Man Without Fear & Batman: TDKR
You ask Bones, "Please?" but he still says, "No!"
You missed two deadlines, and no homework
But Bumchin preaches X-men like you're some kind of jerk!
You gotta fight, for your right, to Side kick”
Welcome back to another edition of your weekly guide to what’s hot in your local library. It seems our beloved leaders are still at each others throats, and Bones shows no signs of admitting he’s wrong (Go Team Daredevil).
I’ve decided to make this weeks as fair as possible, and so have decided to review a book from each camp. To make things even more equal both books are written by the same man, the legendary Frank Miller.
Mike's Library Hot Picks: The List

Gavin became the mighty Bones, and I became Bum-Chin, the most powerful man in the universe!
Well that’s that done, on with the review. This week is a look back at a darker time for the Marvel universe; it’s a book set bang smack in the middle of Dark Reign. Once again it features a number of stories so I will be focusing on them each listing the writers and artists and giving information of what to pick up after each story and how we got to where the story starts.
The Book is “The List” it was published originally in 2009 and was collected in a nice book that has some great stories in it. When these stories originally came out I only picked up the Uncanny X-men version as it became clear that it was essentially a jumping on point book for other titles. The list is something that Norman “Green Goblin” Osborn creates to make life easier for him and contains the following things to do:
Eliminate Daredevil
Kill Namor
Kill Frank Castle (The Punisher)
Kill Nick Fury
Neutralize Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
Control The World
Kill Spiderman
Daredevil #1 First Look Preview

Is it insensitive to call a preview of Daredevil #1, a book about a blind superhero, a first look? It's not me, that was the title on the Marvel press release...okay, maybe I am feeling a little evil tonight but with good reason. The Sidekickcast kept loyal to DD through the terrible times of the poorly executed and disapointing Shadowland, held fast whilst undergoing the lacklusture Daredevil: Reborn and have even dedicated a full feature, The Devils Back Bones to the glory days of our favourite Marvel vigilante. Now, here we are, back again right where we started, new book, new creative team but same old Matt Murdock.
The Friday Comic Book News Poem Strikes Again: Daredevil & Wolverine

Because absolutely nobody demanded it, I'm too lazy to catch up with all the recent comic book movie news and it's Friday afternoon:
Once it was Affleck,
Now it’s unknown,
The Man without Fear,
With a much darker tone,
Slade likes some vamps,
Both sparkle and not,
But can he give Daredevil,
A much better shot?
Darren Aronofsky,
He was the man,
To give us a Logan,
No other man can
Now that he’s gone,
Jackman’s all alone,
But who will FOX get,
To bring the film home?
So here comes the end,
Of this little ditty,
I think you’ll all agree,
It is rather...good(?)
Marvel Big Shots or Marvel Knights?!
This Marvel Big Shots Press Release just appeared in my inbox and the first thing that occured to me was, isn't this just Marvel Knights under another name? Let's take a look at the evidence:
National Lampoons Comic Book Vacation

With the launch of Batman Inc, it has reminded me of one of my all time biggest comic book gripes. One of the things that has always bugged me about ongoing superhero comic books (especially the big two) is their need to shake things up every now and then with some kind of world/european tour. You can look it in two ways:
1) It's an interesting way to take a character out of their usual environment, mix things up and show some lip service to fans around the world.
or the way I usually look at it:
2) When you run out of ideas for a character, send them on holiday so they can meet generic stereotypical foreigners and return after a year having achieved nothing and with the status quo resumed.
How to Tron your Hero: A Masterclass
Link: http://sera-sketch.blogspot.com/

Thanks to Rob 'Seraphyn' Jackson, long time friend and listener to the Sidekickcast, Dan now has his very own awesome DareDevil Tron picture of himself as shown above. Rob was kind enough to give us an explanation of his process when creating such an image, so without further hesitation I'll let the man himself explain how this all came about:
Back in october, Marvel revealed a set of covers that tied their characters to the TRON universe. Some people liked them. I thought they were rubbish. It had nothing to do with the art, to the contrary it was much better than anything I could hope to achieve. It was the spirit of the thing I felt lacking, like they'd just recolored the uniforms grey and added some glowing lines to them, not really attempting to marry costumes with the digitally inspired aesthetic. Lazy design I thought and I made the mistake of mentioning this to Gavin. Fast forward a month and whilst discussing the TRON tie in comic on the podcast, Gavin brought up this conversation, ammending it with a challenge for me to do better. So after getting some character suggestions from the boys, I gave it a go.
Considering I took it as a fun challenge and only spent a few hours on each image, they came out well enough that I was asked to provide a kind of 'walkthrough' of how I work so this is what follows.
Man Without Fear is a King Without Kingdom - Preview

So the Black Panther (I was rooting for Gambit) is going to be The Man Without Fear, possibly the worst kept secret in the Marvel Universe seeing as we were talking about it on our last episode of the Sidekickcast and we usually don't know our arses from our elbows. Don't really see the point of T'Challa taking over the Daredevil numbering unless they really want to launch Matt Murdock back into the book at some point soon. Also I'm guessing unless Daredevil is dead we're gonna still see Matt in some book, is Daredevil: Reborn just a mini or an ongoing? See what I mean RE: Arse/Elbow. Anyway, the book that has Matt in it will be the one I'm reading, having said that I am a big fan of the Francavilla art, don't you just hate it when that happens!

Very similar this post to last week's Jock post but with one subtle difference, can you tell what it is? Duh! It's the cover to #2 you idiots, I honestly don't know why I bother sometimes. Enjoy fans of DD and Jock alike ;-)
