MvC2 Main

No doubt you will have heard me on recent podcasts banging on about this blog that I was going to write when X-Men Second Coming finished.

Well, Second Coming has finished and so here I am. The first post was supposed to be this grand editorial (cue laugh from Marshall) but that could have taken me hours. So, to ensure that I didn't break my word of oak or disappoint the legions of Sidekicks out there, I have opted to launch a new feature, This week I have been mostly playing...

And so, this week I have been mostly playing... Marvel vs Capcom 2: New age of Heroes from the Xbox Live Arcade.

Alternative Uses for Comic Books

by Gavin Jones Email

My comic book collection is taking over my life. Currently I have one room devoted to both holding my comic book collection, my other related goodies like statues, figures and artwork etc and for podcasting. The thing is I've got far too many comic books I don't read and will probably never read again...because you know...they were shit. I need some space before the Danger Room (what I like to call my comic book geek room, it's very dangerous don't you know) completely implodes in upon itself.

There are of course the sensible solutions: Sell them on ebay, pass them onto some young tyke so that they may start to enjoy comics and create a new fan in the process or simply throw them away. None of these solutions appeal to me though, I can't sell them on ebay because they're shit, I can't pass them onto some young tyke it wouldn't be fair because they're shit and the 'Collector' in me just won't let me throw them away.

So I've decided to find alternative uses for my comic books and this is where I need your help. Tonight whilst recording Sidekickcast Episode #31 I'm going to try Alternative Uses for Comic Books #1 (if Dan will let me) as a new little segway. We're going to play a game with my comic books that will hopefully be fun for all, those two people listening and us. What I need from you four people out there that read this blog (the website is doubly more popular than the podcast) are more suggestions for alternative uses for comic books. It can be anything at all and the best ones will make it into the podcast, you can leave your suggestions in the comments after this post or email me @ gavinjones@sidekickcomicsuk.com

Letters from the X-Centric Underground

by @Neon_Lynx Email

X-Centric Cast

No X-Centric on the podcast this week so instead here’s my contribution to the continuing march towards Sidekick’s world-domination.

McGarr's post of 09/10/08 really struck a chord with me. I'm very, very interested to see how his epic comes out and I'm really pleased to see him getting knee-deep in the creative process. In a comment on his post I mentioned my hope that other people would be inspired to put pen to paper.

Now I’ve never been one to shy away from an opportunity to lead by example and so I include here for your reading pleasure a screenplay-style sequence from the X-Men movie I would make if I had Jerry Bruckheimer onboard as producer and an unlimited budget. I may develop this story in lieu of appearances on the podcast, so please no "Is that it?" but more like "Ah yeah, that's it!"

To set the scene for you, we’re shooting on a Pinewood sound stage and I’m sitting in my director’s chair having just seen this morning’s rushes. Whilst I’m going through a nip/tuck of today’s shooting schedule, one of my flunkies comes over with a sandwich and a fresh mug of weak lemon drink. Life is good. I take a break from my brunch to consider some choice gags for my Oscar-acceptance speech, concentrating particularly on that one about the audition tape for... I’m snapped from my reverie by my PA:
“Sir, have you remembered that Mr Bruckheimer is visiting the set today? His helicopter is just landing now.”
“Rodney, call Derek. Tell him we’ll shoot the Danger Room sequence today. And Rodney...”
“Yes sir?”
“Tell him that we’ll shoot the version with the extra explosions.”

The horror, the horror

by Davlo Email

Lo and behold disaster has struck Davlo this week!

I’ve been reading the Batman: RIP issues and all of the related tie-ins with other Batman spin-off comics and all has been going swimmingly. I’m really enjoying the run, and I’ve enjoyed ticking off each of the titles from the checklist and getting further engrossed in the events as they unfold. The series is on the last leg now, and there aren’t many titles left to read – I think the last part of the actual Batman: RIP story is out next month, and its gunna be a doozy I can tell!

Anyway, as I say, all has been going great until, out of nowhere, I can’t find a copy of Batman and the Outsiders #11! How the f**k has this happened?? Admittedly, I don’t have a standing order with any store, and this is definitely going to be rectified let me tell you, but so far I haven’t needed to do it as there’s always been plenty of issues at whichever shop I go to, and I’ve been happily going through these last few months collecting what I need to get. I’ve been aware of the release dates of these comics and know when they are supposed to be in the shops, so that’s been fine. Sometimes, the dates get put back slightly, which is also fine. But last week, hit me like a mallet over my head!

If you've been listening to the latest episode of Sidekickcast you'll know all about Entertainment in your hand, if not, it's time to get over to the podcast page and start making up for lost time. Sidekickcast Episode #2 now available!

We've got to thank Stevo from the blogs for this little beauty, although I think you'll note it's 'hands' not 'hand', there may still be hope. There...is...an..other...Sky...Walker.

Advanced Search

by The Boat Man Email

For those that read these web site update posts you will start to see a pattern emerging. Today I installed the "Advanced Search" plugin. Soon I hope to install the "Advanced Bloggers" plugin and the "Adavanced Users" plugin and hopefully that means that no one will have to ever do anything ever again. The web site should populate itself with reliable, up to the minute but also informative posts, while the comments fill up nicely, with well reasoned, articulate discussion about the topic at hand.....

Anyway as we now have several authors I thought it sensible to allow you to filter posts by author. This advanced search gives you the power to do this, AND MORE! Please bear with me while I style the results pages as they are not quite done yet and still look a little messy.

Spam-less-a-rama-a-thon

spam

HI all, I have been messing with the spam settings to try to avoid any... er... spam... making its way in to the comments. "But there's no spam in the comments yet.." I hear you cry and I intend to keep it that way.

The 2 things I have done are:

  1. Switched on the advanced spam filter which sprinkles side kick dust on your post and decides through the power of ohm if its spam or not.
  2. Made it so you have to be registered to make a comment. Self registration is enabled so real people can sign themselves up. Hopefully the bots won't be able to.

If any one has any trouble posting comments it probs means I got the oven on high so drop me an email and I will turn it down a little.

peace.
