This should give you a pretty good idea how the Thor movie is going to play out. Not what I expected at all, don't know how I feel about this, will get back to it after I've performed my civic duty today. Oh yeah, Agent Phil Coulson is the man, yo!
Ladies and Gentlemen...The Avengers!

It's what we've all been waiting for, it's what Marvel have worked so hard to unveil at SDCC and it was worth it. It's Hall-H, the end of the Marvel movies panel and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) introduces Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Then Downey takes over in full on Tony Stark style and introduces the final two Avengers; Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

But Downey wasn't done there, his final introduction was saved for the movies director and writer, a man he describes as 'someone we'd all approve of'; Joss Whedon. Now I know we've all known for some time that Joss would be directing The Avengers but I for one didn't realise he'd be writing it? That is some of the best news I've heard all year, he is so the man to do this film and now he get's to do it his way. If I hear nothing else from San Diego then I'll be a happy man, roll on 2012.
New Red Theatrical Trailer
The book this film is based on is the next on my to-read-list as I continue to further my education in the comic book world and move away from the Marvel blinkers I've had on for most of my geeky life. Only problem is I can't find a copy of the trade anywhere for love nor money so I may just have to wait until the film comes out, looks bloody good and funny though. Oh and is that a possible future Judge Dredd I see there, I think it is.
Cap & Thor Concept Wet Dreams...and even more!

I'm guessing over the next few days we can expect to see a hell of a lot of this kind of thing as San Diego Comic Con (SDCC from here on in) spills it's geek drenched guts out on onto the expectant world. I'm not going to be doing full coverage as a) I'm not there, boo! b) I have a job and a life...well...kinda and c) as always I'm only going to put up the stuff that I'm kinda interested in, selfish I know but we've got to have some kind of filtering system and this seems as good as any.

I'm loving this concept art for Captain America: The First Avenger, especially as it looks so close to one of my favourite Cap images of all time. If this is the direction the film is going in, I'll be a very happy man. I may be able to tell you soon as the film will be filming in Wales I'm going to make every effort to get down to the set and take a look.
Making a Mockery of the Green Lantern

The original plan for this post had been to demonstrate most people's disdain for the Entertainment Weekly cover of Ryan Reynolds in his Green Lantern costume but this Red Bacon one is the only one I saved to my computer and now I can't find the rest online. There was a Power Ranger GL and a Green Goblin GL, so if you're one of those plucky photoshoppers please get intouch we always enjoy a good mockery on the Sidekick blog.

Thank you Marvel for this little look at the family business that'll be going on in Kenneth Branagh's Thor movie.

Looks a bit crap don't it? Maybe it's just me, what do you guys think? Is anybody else getting a BeeGees vibe from it?

It appears we will have a third actor playing The Hulk for The Avengers movie. Edward Norton has been dropped, possibly due to his pay scale and Marvel are set to announce a new actor in the role very soon. If only it were that simple eh? The story broke on Friday that Ed had been released from Marvel even though he'd already had a meet with Joss Whedon and they were looking to move forward with him playing The Hulk. Then later on that day back on HitFlix we get a response from Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige:
"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."
The Uncasty X-Men
Seriously now, somebody and it's probably Matthew Vaughn, is laughing their asses off at all the geek mafia running around trying to work out who is and isn't in the latest X-Men movie. According to Entertainment Weekly Aaron Johnson will not be playing a young Cyclops (gutted!) but neither will Taylor Lautner be playing Beast (hurrah!), I suppose you've got to take the rough with the smooth.
In some actual casting news it appears Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy, Skins, Clash of the Titans) is the man that'll be playing Beast. Not my first choice but he's a bloody good actor so we'll give him the benefit.
