THR is reporting that Marvel have offered the role of Captain America to Chris Evans.

No not this guy:

BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans

But this guy:

Chris Evans as seen in Cellular could soon be seen in The First Avenger: Captain America

No stranger to comic book movies, Evans played Johnny Storm in the two Fantastic Four flicks and can be seen as Jenson in the upcoming adaptation of Andy Diggle's The Losers. He's a fine actor with a star that's rising all the time but can Johnny Storm also be Captian America?

The Warner S.O.S (Summers of Superheroes)

So according to slash film Warner Bros is looking to fill the gap in it's movie schedule left by the Harry Potter franchise with superhero movies from the DC Entertainment stable. That would mean they're looking to have at least one superhero summer blockbuster every summer for at least the next 10 years starting with Green Lantern next year.

Green Lantern movie casts Abin Sur

Temuera Morrison will be Abin Sur

According to The Hollywood Reporter the Green Lantern movie has found it's Abin Sur in the form of kiwi actor Temuera Morrison. Most people will recognise him as the guy that played not only Bobba Fett's pa Jango but also all the clone troopers in the Star Wars prequels. I first cam across him in the 1994 New Zealand film Once Were Warriors based on the novel of the same name. That movie was possibly one of the harshest and most bleak films I'd seen in my young life at the time and had quite a profound effect on me. He was quite wooden in the Star Wars movies but that's no surprise given the dialogue he had to work with but if you want to see if he really is good enough to play such a vital role in the Green Lantern movie I strongly reccommend checking out Once Were Warriors and it's sequel What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?.

Abin Sur was a member of the Green Lantern Corps who crash landed on Earth and recruited Hal Jordan to take his place as a Green Lantern .

Another Day, Another Iron Man 2 Trailer, Another Suit!

This new Iron Man 2 trailer is very similar to the last one but with some interesting and important additions, that new suit being the main one. From what I can tell it seems to be a portal suit that unfolds from your pocket...that's right I said pocket proving once and for all that Tony Stark is the Ultimate Boy-Scout.

I pity the fool that thinks the A-Team is gonna be better than this...

I don't really know why I feel the need to create this faux tension between the Losers and the A-Team, they just seem so close in style and content that a smackdown seems natural. I will of course be going to see both films so it doesn't really matter.

Bright Young Things: The Captain America Candidates

Is The Office's John Krasinski top choice for Captain America?

So everybody's talking Cap again, no I didn't miss out the 'r', I mean with the news that Marvel are this week engaged in screen tests for the Captain America movie everyone has their opinion on who should fill his pretty red booties. Hot favourite or perhaps just best known out of the testees is John Krasinski (above) from the American version of The Office closely followed by Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Michael Cassidy (Smallville).

What do all these fellas have in common? Well apart from the fact they're all strapping young men just like Cap himself, they've also made the biggest names for themselves in TV. I think this bodes well for future Cap/Avengers movies. By choosing guys that aren't already huge movie stars it allows Marvel Studios a bit of leeway both on price and when tying them into a horrendous eight picture deal. Works for me.

Captain America & The Red Skull tripping the light fantastic

Captain America & The Red Skull tripping the light fantastic

Yesterday I had an appointment very near to the comic book shop so I left a bit early in order to call in on the way, pick up some comics and have some geeky chat. Kristian, the shop's owner was welcoming as ever and talk inevitably got onto news of the latest developments of the new Captain America film. Joe Johnston, the film's director has been waxing lyrical about the upcoming movie whilst promoting his The Wolfman which is out this week. In an interview with the LA Times he says that the villain of the piece will definitely be The Red Skull, excellent and the most obvious choice and that Captain America's outfit will be explained by the fact that he's in a USO show wearing a flag suit, eh? Kristian took some umbridge with this and quite rightly said 'why don't they just say he's wearing the suit as a symbol?', just like they do in the book. I couldn't agree with him more so why is this?

Iron Man 2: Shoot to Thrill

by The Bone Man Email

With the first movie it was the brilliant if not slightly 'on the money' Black Sabbath, but really what else could it be but Iron Man? For the second coming of Iron Man clearly only AC/DC's Shoot to Thrill could pack enough of a punch. Enjoy.

Spider-Man 4 is Dead. Long Live Spider-Man!

Spider-Man 4 is Dead Long Live Spider-Man

With the news that Sam Raimi is off Spider-Man 4, taking with him the cast and crew comes the equally startling news that Sony have now decided reboot the entire franchise. The press release says "Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012". So, we know that this will be a younger Peter Parker and that we'll have to wait and extra year for cinematic Spidey, not really a bad thing as we've got plenty of superhero/comic book flicks out there to keep us entertained/annoyed.

So, what does this mean for the other Spider-Man news, John Malkovich playing The Vulture? Is this still valid or was he attatched to the now defunct Raimi production? Personally I hope he is on for this new rebooted version as firstly I think he could do a bang up job and secondly it may mean they'll not introduce the Green Goblin straight away. It would be pretty cool to have Norman Osborn just as Harry's dad over a couple of movies and his story arc slowly develop as he descends into madness. No origin story, I am sick to the back teeth of origin stories. The Incredible Hulk did it perfectly during the title sequences, we all know the charater, we've all seen the original movie just bloody get on with it and make a good story.

Townsend out, Dallas in as Fandral in Thor

It's all go in Hollywood at the moment when it comes to hiring and firing on several comic book flicks. According to Ainitcool Stuart Townsend is off Thor and being replaced by Joshua Dallas in the role of Fandral. The official line is this was due to 'creative differences' but there is a rumour circulating that it was because he turned up 6 hours late to a screen test. He's not one of the Warriors Three, he's a very naughty boy.
