The Pro Animated

Y'all remember Garth Ennis' The Pro, drawn by Amanda Conners with Jimmy Palmiotti on inks yeah? If not, it's an amusing little book about a superheroine who's more likely to be turning tricks rather than turning in crooks. It sits proudly on my bookshelf snuggled inbetween all my other Ennis books but now you don't even need to it, you can watch it thanks to this animated short. Thanks Mr Palmiotti. The Video is for Adults only so to watch it please click on the image below or here.

New Red Theatrical Trailer
The book this film is based on is the next on my to-read-list as I continue to further my education in the comic book world and move away from the Marvel blinkers I've had on for most of my geeky life. Only problem is I can't find a copy of the trade anywhere for love nor money so I may just have to wait until the film comes out, looks bloody good and funny though. Oh and is that a possible future Judge Dredd I see there, I think it is.
On Set with The Walking Dead

Cool little MTV behind the scenes feature on The Walking Dead set, not a huge amount of zombie action but we do get to see Kirkman and Darabont looking pretty pleased with themselves.
Morrison Out and Tomasi In: Batman and Robin
Link: http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2010/07/15/batman-and-robin-met-peter-and-patrick/

So from November Grant Morrison will no longer be writing Batman and Robin, that honour will belong to Peter Tomasi with art by Pat Gleason. I don’t really know how I feel about this to be honest with you, Morrison is such an acquired taste that any book he writes, he very much makes his own and somebody else writing B&R just won’t be the same book.
Remender's Uncanny X-Force

X-Force has been one of the few X-titles of the last few years that I've consistently enjoyed and that's mainly down to the excellent writing from Carig Kyle and Christopher Yost. Well come October there will be somebody else in charge of the book that will be relaunced as Uncanny X-Force and I couldn't be happier about it. If anybody else had been put on this book I would've been thrown into a geek rage but Marvel have chosen extremely well and put the FEAR Agent team of Rick Remender and Jerome Opena in the driver's seat. The new lineup will be: Wolverine, Archangel, Fantomex, Psylocke and Deadpool. Can't say I'm totally loving that team, especially as Deadpool is really starting to get on my tits but I'm more than willing to give it a go as I'm sure Remender has some cool ideas for these guys especially as theyy're going up against the return of EN Sabuh Nur himself; Apocalypse.

Thanks to the guys over at AintitCool for these production shots from the filming of The Walking Dead TV show. The first image which is actually an official shot released by AMC (above) is the one that got me most excited. It looks like it's taken straight from the book and is the biggest indication yet that this series is on the right track and keeping faithful to the books.
Let My Preacher Go!
Link: http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/102138-exclusive-joe-carnahan-on-taskmaster-and-preacher

It seems that lately all we do on this blog is talk about movie adaptations of comic books, who's in those movies and how much they're goin to suck/rule/destroy my world view. I do love that comic books are being taken a lot more seriously and it's a pleasure to see some of my favourites up on the big screen in amazing technicolour especially when it's down well. The thing is, I also feel that some things need to be left well alone, some stories need to kept pure without being seen through Hollwood-o-Vision and in my opinion Garth Ennis' Preacher is at the top of that list.
First it was going to be movie directed by Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl), then it switched to a HBO tv show, then back to movie this time with Sam Mendez (American Beauty) but that proved fruitless so now A-Team director Joe Carnahan has thrown his hat into the Preacher ring via an interview with Superherohype:
"And the other thing I'm really keen on or interested in is 'Preacher' because I'm a big Garth Ennis fan and I love that series and that's out there, and that might be something… I really love that. You gotta do the Allfather (D'Aronique) and all that crazy sh*t and I haven't seen a script and I don't know what it is, but yeah, we'll see. Who knows?"
So there you go, not exactly 100% locked in or anything but Carnahan's comments are enough to give us an excuse to talk about Preacher and why I'm some bloody precious about it. To sum up Preacher is very difficult (for you noobs check out ol' faithful, so much happens and we take so many sidetracks that meander through Ennis' fucked up view of the world and that's kind of the point. Preacher is more than the sum of it's parts but to leave bits out which you'd inevitably have to do with a movie adaptation would in my mind b detremental to the story as a whole. Which is also why I think out of all the possible versions that have been bandied about, the TV show was the best and most viable possibilty. Only a TV show could give the story the time and development it deserves, of course it's have to be HBO as there's some pretty messed up stuff in there.
Secret Avengers?!

How did this one pass me by? Well at least this one is more of a teaser than the Bendis and Romita Jr adjectiveless Avengers. Who could this be? And doesn't this team's remit sound very similar to X-Force 'getting the badass shit done that the normal Avengers can't', I'm of course paraphrasing there. Can't quite work out who it is from the silouette, maybe Black Panther? My fiorst thought Spiderman 2099 but surely not?! This'll be kicking off in May with Brubaker writing and Deodato on art duties making it pretty hard to pass up. Damn you Marvel you're winning back my blackened heart.
Comic Book Casting Craziness!

It's all go in Hollywood at the moment when it comes to hiring and firing on several comic book flicks. According to Ainitcool Stuart Townsend is off Thor and being replaced by Joshua Dallas in the role of Fandral. The official line is this was due to 'creative differences' but there is a rumour circulating that it was because he turned up 6 hours late to a screen test. He's not one of the Warriors Three, he's a very naughty boy.
Matt Fraction on Thor

Interesting news that Matt Fraction will be taking over the reigns of Thor in 2010, kicking off with a team-up between Thor and Iron Man for Free Comic Book Day with art by John Romita Jr. Seeing as these two characters have been opposed to each other since Thor's return to the (im)mortal coil it seems pretty safe to assume that The Siege will putting all the big players back where they belong, at each other's side.

No stranger to Thor, Fraction recently wrote the mini series Age of Thunder which chronicled Thor's Asgardian history but for the ongoing title Fraction will be dealing with the Thor we know now and the issues that arise with a God wandering around the Marvel Universe. For more on Fraction's intentions for his ongoing Thor check out the interview over at CBR.
