Being Robbed, Disillusioned and No Real Endings

by Dan Marshall Email

It's funny thing, the old "Event", in the comic world nowadays.

What used to be a summer crossover, now seems an almost continuous "Do Not Miss" event. Not only do we now get our free cards from the comic shop, complete with every title that may include any kind of something that may or may not have anything to do with the much hyped "event" and a little box next to each title on the list so you can tick-as-you-go.
Brill!!!

Well, not really. Not any more, at least.

It's an easy target, but just while it's all fresh in everyones mind let's take Secret Invasion. Planned from nearly 5 years ago with the start of the New Avengers title, it really started to come to the front about October last year with the banner "secret invasion" and the revelation that Black Bolt was a Skrull!! Sacre blerrr!! But 12 months and 125 issue later(that's if you got everything baring the Secret Invasion Banner on it's cover), what you really got was a segue way to another event, Dark reign.

Now I was totally caught up in this. I loved the start although I didnt collect every issue after I got stung with the pap that was tied-in with Civil War and baring that banner, but if I had it would've cost me just shy of £300 (this is not exact as some issues cost more than the usual monthly titles). A pretty penny, we can all agree.

Not quite sure I can present you Sidekickers with any viable reason for my absence, so I won’t bother to insult your intelligence and put the whole sabbatical down to getting a call on the Davlo-Phone™ and being called out to an emergency on the other side of planet Earth – I flew there using my mutant ability to save the planet, but had to get an economy class long-haul flight on the way back due to customs difficulties…

So, my newfound comic-book reader status has gone up another level since we last met. I have found myself a new supplier care of Mr David Bath at the Cardiff Fantasy Centre! After the Guru’s unfortunate move to the ‘burbs, the new location is too out of reach for my weary legs and so I got wind of Dave’s shop and frequented there.
