X-Men Regenesis: Generation Hope with Sebastian Shaw?!

by Gavin Jones Email

I don't wear anything on my torso as I get terrible chaffing nipples

From issue #13, Generation Hope will no longer be written by Kieron Gillen and Sebastian Shaw will be heading up the team. No I haven't lost my mind, it's all part of the X-Men Regenesis that's coming off the back of Schism. The new writer will be James Asmus who's definitely got some X-Men form having written some Dark X-Men: The Beginning, specifically the Mimic story and some of the Manifest Destiny stories, clearly they've been gearing him up to take over an X-book for quite some time now. He'll be joined by artist Ibraim Roberson who also worked on Dark X-Men, The Zombie Survival Guide and then some the Second Coming stories, I'm a big fan of his classical pencils and especially the way he renders Hope:

You and whose Arm-y?!

I've dipped in and out of Generation Hope, I read the first four and then didn't go back to it until I read Sidekick columnist, Joe Glass' excellent piece on issue #9 -'Better', which you can find here. The point is I'm not really that invested in the characters as of yet and although I'm a huge fan of Kieron Gillen, I'll still get my Gillen hit with Uncanny X-Men, so Generation Hope may not be continuing on my pull list. It does seem odd that they're essentially rebooting a new team only 13 issues in, especially when great effort was put into creating completely new characters. It may be that the addition of Sebastian Shaw is the only change to the team, who knows? No really, if you know, get in touch.

As for Sebastian Shaw, all I can say is WTF?! Are the X-Men slowly but surely being taken over by the old Hellfire Club? It would certainly seem so, although the last time we saw Shaw, Emma Frost had essentially mind-wiped him. Could make for some interesting future storylines, is he reformed or just faking it?
