Box 123 – Easy as ABC!

by Davlo Email

It’s been a while, but the Davlo is back to ruminate on the world of comics and associated items!! Not quite sure I can present you Sidekickers with any viable reason for my absence, so I won’t bother to insult your intelligence and put the whole sabbatical down to getting a call on the Davlo-Phone™ and being called out to an emergency on the other side of planet Earth – I flew there using my mutant ability to save the planet, but had to get an economy class long-haul flight on the way back due to customs difficulties…

So, my newfound comic-book reader status has gone up another level since we last met. I have found myself a new supplier care of Mr David Bath at the Cardiff Fantasy Centre! After the Guru’s unfortunate move to the ‘burbs, the new location is too out of reach for my weary legs and so I got wind of Dave’s shop and frequented there.

Follow up:

Fair play, he is a really nice bloke and does as much as he can to help with your queries. It’s only a small operation, but he loves his comics and will get anything for you. After a couple of weeks visiting him on a Saturday morning, and picking my own things out of that week’s fresh batch of titles, I decided to set up a standing order with him (the #11 saga of a few weeks back also fresh in my mind!!!).

So I have had a few weeks of this standing order and I must say that this has the beginnings of a beautiful long term relationship with comics. I have my routine firmly in place too – (1) browse the comics’ websites, (2) get the release dates of any new ones that sound good to me, (3) get on the blower to Dave, and (4) make my way through the regulars milling around in the place and get to the treasure chest No: 123 to collect. Ahhhh Box 123 – what a great number to have. For years, people have fought against the state robbing us of our identity, we have shouted from the rooftops “I am not a number, I am a man!”. Well – I am a number, and my number is 123.

I’m also very happy to have finished my first series run in the comic universe. Batman RIP has been collected, digested, and dissected, and after the trials and tribulations along the way (including wondering what the f**k was going on!) I’ve come out of the other end with a big smile on my face. My blood is up for more yo!

I revel in your OCD-ness Davlo. Dave's a good guy and I used to use him myself at one point. Only open on a saturday though, which just doesn't cut it for me. So happy you've embraced your new hobby with such gusto.

I used to by those grab bags too, usually they were shite but every now abd again you'd get a hidden gem. Weren't they guaranteed to have at least 1 issue No1 in them. Hey Mikey do you want me to sort out your avatar??

Sure they were guaranteed to have an issue one in them, but do remember them being rubbish, you can now buy them in the newsagent on albany road [the spar type place by the globe]

i reckon there's a decent chance i'm going to ditch comic book guy for this fella Dave...
his shop is too much of a pain to get to and i'm not motivated enough to get my ass in gear and go...
but then again, word is he's worked hard to fill in the blanks in my collection and i'll have to serve out my three months cancellation-period...

hmmmm...
it's my future...
i see... procrastination...

anyways - thanks for the info frere!
