Review : Judge Dredd the Restricted Files vol 3
Link: http://2000ad.wordpress.com/

THIS REVIEW COMES TO YOU COURTESY OF THE EVERYTHING COMES BACK TO 2000AD BLOG, SHOW THE LOVE YO
Ah, the 90’s. The time when we all bought Image Comics and now are so ashamed about it we rip on Rob Liefeld like he held up our favourite pet and said “Buy my books or Tiddles gets it”. Most comics of the 90’s get a bad rep and 2000AD is no exception. As a result this book was of particular interest to me having missed out on that entire decades worth of Thrill Power. Was it as bad as people made out? Was Mark Millar’s Dredd going to make me go home and burn my Old Man Logan hardback? Good questions.
CICAE 2012 Update: Guest of Honour Announced

This year's comic con season is far from over over yet but already we're getting ready for next year. The most important con on next year's calendar is obviously the now two day Cardiff Comic and Animation Expo (that's right CICE becomes CICAE with the addition of animation to the line up) held on 25 - 26th February 2012 at the Cardiff Mercure Hotel. Why is it such an important convention? Well because it's ourhometown con of course.
They've just announced next year's Guest of Honour and we can reveal it's the legendary...
Everything Comes Back To 2000AD E59 : It’s the BOMB, yo!
I am a man of simple pleasures, all I need is a cold beer, the warm embrace of a beautiful girl and the opportunity to shoehorn myself into every UK comic book podcast out there. Last week I had the pleasure of being invited to join Rich McAuliffe on the Everything Comes Back to 2000AD podcast and of course I jumped at the chance. I was supposed to be there to give my opinion on 2000AD jumping on points prog 1740 and 1741, I actually ended up talking more about nazis and picking up chicks. Good times.

Some unrelated Jock stories *UPDATED*
Link: http://www.4twenty.co.uk/

So currently I'm reading Mega City Undercover collected from Judge Dredd: Megazine. The first half of the book is about an undercover Judge called Lenny Zero, it's written by Andy Diggle and art from Jock, so yeah it's The Losers team and you can really see the inception of that book in their Lenny Zero stories.
Novelty comic covers it must mean Christmas is coming
I really haven't had a lot of time to blog this week so you can expect an extra long Friday Feeling tomorrow to catch up with what's been going on in my little corner of comicdom. In the meantime why not enjoy this novelty seasonal Ed McGuinness variant cover for HULK #18.

This then got me thinking there are probably lots of these Christmas covers knocking about, so in the spirit of the season I'm going to try and post as many as I can find in the run up to Christmas starting with your favourite and mine 2000AD. This cover is from Prog 710 December 1990 when I would've been 10 years old and already well into the 2000ADs I'd stolen from my friend's older brother. Tharg Bless us, everyone.

Skizz Review

This was one of the freebies from our recent visit to BICS 2009. Skizz written by Alan Moore and drawn by Jim Baikie was first published in 1983, serialised over a number of 2000AD issues. The main character is Skizz an alien that crash lands on Earth and is helped by a school girl called Roxy. Its set in Birmingham UK which is very appropriate considering I picked up the book at the Birmingham Comic Con and I have lived in Brum for 11 years so have a certain attachment to it. I can confidently say that this definitely helped me along when reading it. It was nice to see that not only was there recognisable land marks in the art but also regional accents in the script.
When I started reading this book I didn't really know how old it was. I should have appreciated that Moore (see what I did there...), as at first I was feeling a little disappointed that all of the characters were utterly familiar. We have all met them all before and they were pretty unoriginal. The odd thing though was that although I felt like that I still wanted to read on. I think this is testament to actually how good Alan Moore's writing is, not only was I hooked but after checking out when it was written it made me think that the reason we are so familiar with these sorts of characters is because of Moore.
The artwork is not really quite to my taste. I didn't hate it but I felt there was a lot of unnecessary detail that confused the page more than it did anything stylistic. I generally like black and white though and after reading a few pages I got in to reading the art work.
On the whole I enjoyed this. Its a quick hit short story that is well told and has a definite end conclusion, even if it was pretty predictable. I wouldn't say rush out and buy this as its definitely showing its age but if you see it for cheap some where and fancy a quick story in between something a bit heavier then do it. I guess its a bit like picking up a cheap DVD from the corner shop although that does read a lot harsher than it sounded in my head.
Marvel v DC - The Sidekick Showdown!
I’ve been trying to think about a subject matter this week to blog about, and was struggling to collate my random thoughts into a structure. After a heavy dose of caffeine, my light bulb moment came and I screamed Eureka in the bath, and a whole host of other idea-related clichés happened!! Why don’t I put the Sidekick readers to a survey and let battle between the big guns commence in true primary school fashion! The question??? Which is better – Marvel or DC??? BOSH.
It’s a very tough question for me, as I am a relative newcomer to comics and I therefore have only a limited knowledge of either of the two heavyweights. Anything I base my decision on may be a discredit to the publishers involved but I’m going to plough on anyway and, unlike last week, come off my fence! Who will I go for? Will anyone care?? Is the decision likely to cripple the losing challenger financially for the rest of their days??
